Get to the know the Teacher!

I interviewed Mr Bartlett this week to find out a bit more about him. I managed to get some great responses. We are very lucky to have Mr Bartlett at ECS as one of our teachers and now to the questions:
- Why did you become a teacher?
‘I have always loved learning and as a teacher I am learning all the time! Working with young children at ECS is inspiring and fun, no day is quite the same. As an ex ECS pupil, I wanted to work in a happy environment with great pupils and staff. I like to be creative and as an English teacher I enjoy creating memorable lessons for pupils. Sometimes I get even more excited than the pupils in class!’
- Who inspires you?
‘Wow, great question! I love sport and I feel inspired by athletes who train hard, bounce back from failure and keep going. My sporting hero is David Beckham; he famously bounced back from being sent off in the 1998 World Cup to become one of the best-known footballers on the planet.
- What job did you want to do when you were younger?
Easy, a footballer for Manchester United or a Top Gear Presenter. I love cars and would have loved to drive fast cars and have fun like the guys on Top Gear. Teaching was on my realistic list, but it’s good to dream!
- What do you want to do next?
I am very happy at ECS and I love working here. I want to keep learning and do my best for the school. I think my time to play for Manchester United is running out, but if Ole phones I will have to discuss contract terms.
- Why ECS?
Why not! A friendly school that makes us all feel valued and pushes us to do our very best!
The Year 5 Residential

All the Year 5 pupils went to Viney Hill Christian Adventure Centre recently. They took part in various activities such as tunnelling, crate stacking, team building, archery, a night walk and much more!
We had an amazing time. On the night walk we saw three deer and in the evening the teachers did an ECS Talent Show. Mrs Salter and Mrs Lake-Johns did the cancan!! Mrs Salter also levitated and then Mr Crocker, Mrs Salter and Mrs Lake-Johns did the floss. It was so funny!
The only downside to our trip is that we had to return early due to the snow. This was such a shame because we were having the best time.
Overall, the trip was a massive success and we would like to thank all our teachers for taking us and showing us their dancing skills! I hope they keep practising.

Space Junk

Did you know that all the metal from Space is caused by rockets or by astronauts dropping their tools?
There is thought to be more than 7,000 bits of Space junk floating around the Earth’s orbit. This rubbish could cause big problems because it could smash into one of the many satellites that orbit Earth. Recently, Scientists have invented a new satellite to help clean up the Space junk. It does this shooting a huge net to capture debris and drag it back to the satellite. Once it is back in the satellite the rubbish is burnt.
Some people think this solution will not work, but the team behind the cleaning satellite are hopeful. One peace of rubbish at a time!
New Species of Spider named after something from Harry Potter

A spider bearing an “uncanny” resemblance to the sorting hat in the Harry Potter series has been discovered by scientists in India.
Latin name Eriovixia gryffindori, the sorting hat spider, is 7mm long. It gets is Latin name from Godric Gryffindor, the fictional owner of the hat in Harry Potter.
The spider is very clever, pretending to be an old leaf for camouflage. It was found by a group of people including the scientist: Javed Ahmed in South Western India.
J K Rowling congratulated the team and she said she was truly honoured.
Eriovixia gryffindori is pronounced her-ee-oh-viks-ee-uh-gri-in-dor-ee. There are four other Harry Potter creatures: Harryplax sellerus, Ampulex Dementor, Dracorel Hoywartsia and a monkey nicknamed Voldemort!
